A Grey County farmer is the winner of the 2011 Ontario Pasture Award.
James McKinlay of Silver Springs Farms was presented with the prestigious award from the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association, Mapleseed and the Ontario Forage Council.
James and his wife Joan operate Silver Springs Farms in Ravenna — growing cash crops including winter wheat, soybeans, canola, barley and corn.
The also have a large herd of Cattle.
McKinlay says he is thrilled to be recognized by his peers for this award.
McKinlay says he is a believer in good rotational growing and grazing systems.
He adds sunlight, soil and fresh clean water are also of the utmost importance.
McKinlay feels they have a responsibility as food producers and ambassadors for agriculture to be good land stewards.
