The Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound is playing host to a famous artist this weekend.
Spokesperson Leanne Wright says they are opening an exhibit honouring feminist artist Judy Chicago.
Chicago first attracted fame in 1979 with her work “The Dinner Party,” which features place settings for notable women throughout history and depicts the type of “women’s work” they did at the time.
Wright says they have been able to obtain many of the test plates Chicago made while coming up with this exhibit.
Wright says it was a famous exhibit and has stood the test of time as it is now featured in a New York museum.
When it first opened, about 100 thousand people viewed the exhibit.
Wright says the test plates were collected by a group of “art divas” from the Calgary Art Gallery — and some of those women will be on hand tonight for the exhibit opening.
Chicago herself will be in attendance for the free event, which opens at 7 PM.
Judy Chicago will also give a talk on Saturday at OSCVI at 1 PM, as well as sign some of her books.
