Another big cheque has rolled into the fund raising effort for the Owen Sound Regional Rec Centre.
Owen Sound lawyer John Tamming has donated 25 thousand dollars to the 38.6 million dollar project.
Tammings’ cheque was given to the fund-raising chair Tom Rice on Monday.
John Tamming is one of a growing number of area professionals who have contributed to a $5 million local fund raising effort.
Since construction began in March of 2010, the dream of a modern recreation centre for residents of northern Grey and Bruce counties has steadily taken shape.
Not only has the $38.6 million partnership between the city of Owen Sound and the communitys Family Y generated the jobs that federal and provincial government financial support sought to create, it has also created work for area businesses.
As well, it has stimulated a generous response from more than 450 individual donors to bring the Y-led campaign more than half way to its goal.
The 125,000 sq. ft. recreation centre includes two NHL-sized ice rinks and a health and fitness centre. A walking/running track and two pools, one competition-sized and one for leisure and therapy are part of the project.
Donations to the Recreation Centre campaign can be made over a period of five years and are eligible for charitable tax receipts.
