Water and sewer rates are going up 5 per cent this year in Kincardine and Tiverton.
Craig Binning of Hemson Consulting has been developing a financial plan for the utility.
He says besides the 5 per cent increase this year, there will be a further 4 per cent hike next year and 3 per cent hikes after that.
This year an average Kincardine household will pay 525 dollars for water plus a flat rate 330 dollars for sewer services.
In Tiverton, on a separate system, an average household will be shelling out 657 dollars this year plus the flat rate sewer service charge.
Binning says they are also suggesting the municipality move towards increasing some of the money received to reserves to replace infrastructure down the road.
Binning says both of the systems are doing well financially and the municipality is planning well for the future.
The financial plan, that has been approved by council, needs to be in the hands of the Ontario Ministry of Environment.
Meanwhile, the Tiverton and District Ratepayers Association is in discussion with the municipality on the numbers being presented by the Hemson Water and Waste Water Rate Study report.
Kincardine CAO John deRosenroll informed councillors that talks are continuing with the group and will be reporting back to council later this year.
