It’s a big set of wheels.
The Heart & Stroke Big Bike is back in the region this week.
After stopping in Owen Sound, Hanover, Wiarton and Saugeen Shores — the Big Bike is in Meaford and the Blue Mountains today.
Grey Bruce Heart and Stroke Area Manager Jason Hoffman says it’s a lot of fun for a great cause.
The bike can hold 30 people and weighs one tonne on its own.
Over the past 15 years, the Big Bike has raised just over a million dollars in Bruce and Grey.
This year, Hoffman is hopeful they can reach 75 thousand dollars.
Hoffman says every fundraiser they do also has a component of getting active.
He says exercise and eating healthy maintains a healthy lifestyle, which in turn can reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke.
Hoffman says this message is especially important because over 50 per cent of the Grey-Bruce population is overweight or obese.
Provincially, 24 per cent of children are overweight or obese, and in Grey-Bruce that number jumps to 29 per cent.
