Are the taxpayers of Kincardine getting the best bang for their buck in the municipality?
That question is expected to be answered over the next several months as Kincardine Council has approved the terms of reference for an internal organizational review.
CAO John deRosenroll says they want to make sure they have an efficient and effective organization.
deRosenroll says they will be reviewing all of their practices with input from those that are working in administration.
He says at the end of the day — they want to be able to tell the taxpayer that every dollar is being spent wisely.
deRosenroll says if there are weaknesses in the system, they want to know about them as well so they can repair and improve.
He says the project will be significant as they compare themselves to other municipalities in areas of cost, efficiency and effectiveness.
Kincardine Councillor Candy Hewitt says it’s a good first step to answer questions from councillors and from the citizens of the community.
Not everyone agrees with the plan though.
Councillor Mike Leggett voted against the review because it’s an internal one.
He suggests you could have biased people looking at the review differently than they should.
Leggett would like to see a third party outside source take on the review to eliminate bias.
He also called for a town hall-style meeting with administration personnel to describe their jobs and if there is any room for improvement.
The town hall idea won’t be dealt with by council until tonight.
