The Bluewater District School Board business committee will have its paring knives out to start cutting where they can to achieve a balanced budget for next year.
As we have reported to you earlier, the board starts the process 4.3 million dollars in the hole.
Business committee chair Dan Wong says tonight’s meeting will be a working one and as such will not be entertaining questions from the public.
However, he says, the meeting is open to the public, running from 5 PM until 7 PM this evening at the board offices in Chesley.
Meanwhile, Saugeen Shores/Arran Elderslie trustee Kevin Larson has presented a notice of motion at the last board meeting calling on trustees to assist business committee members with the budget challenge.
Larson says his notice has four items in it including the extreme idea of presenting a deficit budget to the Ministry of Education.
The ministry insists that all boards present balanced budgets.
Larson says if we have to make cuts that affect student programs then they’re not worth the cuts.
The Larson notice of motion will come back to the board on June 7th.
