A new book is out covering the history of the Owen Sound Mercury’s hockey team.
Anne Keeling is the granddaughter of the founder of the Mercury’s, and was on hand Tuesday night as the book was launched at the Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound.
It was written by her uncle, Cliff Keeling, who served as a stick boy for the team for a number of years.
Keeling says it was written from Cliff’s perspective and his memories.
She says the book includes pictures and stories, and even an essay her Uncle Cliff wrote in the tenth grade about his experiences as a stick boy.
The book also includes a list of every player in the club’s ten year history.
Along with former goaltender Bobby Gilson, they’ve even tabulated all of the statistics for each player.
Keeling says this year seemed the most appropriate to put the book out, as the Owen Sound Attack received permission from the Ontario Hockey League to don the Mercury’s throw-back jerseys this year.
Tuesday also marked, to the day, the 60th anniversary of the team’s Allan Cup win.
