A homeless shelter in downtown Owen Sound could be on the auction block on May 27th.
Pastor Randy Kennedy says the Victorious Living Centre is in tax arrears and if a deal cannot be struck at Monday’s Council meeting, the building will likely be sold.
Kennedy says they presented a payment plan to city staff earlier, but it was turned down.
The issue is about 20 thousand dollars.
Kennedy says it’s not the first time that the homeless shelter has run into trouble at city hall.
A few months ago, water was going to be turned off because they hadn’t paid the bill.
Kennedy says about 40 minutes before the tap was to be turned off, a deal was struck and they were able to serve soup to some 60 people at lunch that day.
Pastor Kennedy says he applied to M-PAC for a tax exemption for the Victorious Living Centre.
Late last year, that exemption was received but the city appealed it.
Kennedy says a new payment plan for the back-taxes will be offered at council tonight.
