Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre has been slapped with a three thousand dollar copyright infringement fine.
Director Barb Ribey tells Bruce county council recently, she received a letter from a group called Master File, indicating that a graphic they were using on their website was copyrighted.
Ribey says the graphic is an image of a simple suitcase with stickers on it from various destinations.
Apparently the work was copyrighted by its artist.
Ribey says they found the image on an old CD and used it, not knowing about the copyright.
The image was removed as soon as they were informed.
The original fine was 35 hundred dollars, but that was reduced to three thousand after some negotiation.
County councillors agreed with the expenditure and paid the bill.
A similar image is on the museum’s selected printed flyers as well but there won’t be any trouble there.
That image was created by one of their own I-T team.
