The “Big Canoe” is back in the water.
The Chi Cheemaun is making its annual trip from Owen Sound to Tobermory today.
Manager of Operations for the Owen Sound Transportation company, Ian Dean, says the ship has a full load of passengers today — with 638 people on board.
The ship will arrive in Tobermory about 4:30 PM today.
The Chi-cheemaun will begin operating from Tobermory to South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island on Friday morning.
It will be operating on a spring schedule of two return trips a day, except for Fridays when there are three trips.
During the summer, the boat makes four daily trips.
Dean says prices are up two per cent this year, and they believe that will be enough to handle to higher diesel costs.
He says the moderate increase may look like a real bargain to drivers who face much higher gasoline prices compared with last season.
