It was a night of highs and lows for the NDP in Huron Bruce riding.
The night started out in party mode but it was obvious from the first results that incumbent Conservative Ben Lobb was going to win the riding.
But Grant Robertson, who spoke to party supporters and workers at his office in Wingham saw the positive out of the night’s result.
Robertson was a solid second which was a first for the party in the riding.
He says coupled with the impressive result of the NDP across Canada, he felt they were still riding the Jack Layton wave.
Robertson says he’ll be interested to see what the Conservatives do with their majority but he feels people will be disappointed in some of things that will come out of the government.
He told his workers to take the rest of the week of but be ready on Monday to start working toward the provincial election coming up in October.
Robertson was non-committal for Bayshore Broadcasting News after his speech as to whether or not he would let his name stand for the provincial NDP nomination.
He says he’s going back to running the family farm, spend time with the kids and enjoy the best beaches in world in the region.

Conservative – Ben Lobb – 28,922 votes (54.7 %)
NDP – Grant Robertson – 13,417 votes (25.4%)
Liberal – Charlie Bagnato – 8,784 votes (16.6%)
Green Party – Eric Shelley – 1,455 votes (2.8%)
Independent – Dennis Valenta – 254 votes (0.5%)
Polls reporting: 232/232 Voter turnout: 52,832 of 77,743 registered electors (68.0%)
