A shocker for Bruce-Grey-Owen-Sound candidate Karen Gventer on election night.
Gventer says she was surprised with her second place finish.
Gventer thinks she made some headway locally but also says Jack Layton’s surge as leader helped her in the second place finish.
She says the local numbers are a positive sign and she’s also thrilled the NDP is the official opposition.
Third-place Liberal Kimberley Love agrees the NDP’s national popularity surge changed the local vote.
Love says there are things that happen nationally that they can’t control
She says she was really looking forward to the opportunity to implement the Liberal platform in the riding, but overall she says they accomplished the things they set out to and made some great gains.
Emma Hogbin of the Green Party says it was an election of change from start to finish, and she’s proud to have been a part of an election where people felt they had a chocie and voiced that opinion.
Hogbin and Love both agree that it was tough to know where they would finish because there was no polling locally.
Hogbin says she will continue to work for the Greens nationally as the technology critic.
