Hanover has been cleared of any wrong doing regarding a complaint that was filed over two closed meetings that took place in April of 2009 and March 2010.
Both sessions involved discussion over a naming opportunity for the Regional Recreation Complex — which is now known as the P and H Centre.
The complaints were over the fact the public did not have an opportunity to provide some input in the name.
The ruling points out Hanover could have handled the situation better — but it was more of an oversight and not an attempt to circumvent the Municipal Act.
The ruling also notes there is no automatic right of input by the public on any issue that comes before Council in either open or closed session — unless specifically required by legislation such as the Planning Act.
The report also says Hanover should make public a staff report if Council refers to it in open session.
Councillor Selwyn Hicks says the report reinforces Hanover is following procedure.
He admits there is always room for improvement, and the recommendations coming out of the report will help Hanover better tweak its practices.
