After Huron-Bruce voters make their decision in the federal election on Monday their attention will turn to a provincial campaign that has been unofficially under way for some time.
One of those in pre-election mode is Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell who recently appeared alongside Premier McGuinty during a tour of the Hensall District Co-operative.
Sounding like a re-election candidate Mitchell reminded reporters of the effects of the recession.
Mitchell says the economic downturn hit Huron-Bruce hard and that the riding’s future hinges on job-creation.
She says there are many opportunities in our heavily rural riding.
Mitchell points to agriculture and energy as the drivers of the Huron-Bruce economy and that there are more growth opportunities especially in the green energy sector.
Mitchell believes they only way for Huron-Bruce to keep on the economic upswing is to stay the course politically.
She says success comes with hard work and hints that a vote for the Progressive Conservatives would derail the riding’s further economic success.
Mitchell has yet to be nominated by her party’s riding association.
The PCs have nominated Lisa Thompson of Teeswater to run on October 6th while the New Democrats have not announced plans for their nomination.
