It’s time to take the next step in creating a more vibrant downtown Southampton.
So says Saugeen Shores councillor Diane Huber.
Council has approved staff to make recommendations on the merits of undertaking a Community Improvement Plan for the core commercial and cultural areas of Southampton.
Staff will also create a time-line for the project and of course, the cost.
Councillor Huber says she knows Southampton residents will be ready to come forward with new ideas.
She says there are period lights in the downtown area, along with flowers and some other streetscape improvements.
Huber says those projects are done and it’s time to move onto the next thing.
She says she understands why the downtown drug store left the area to re-locate on the highway but it did cut a big heart out of the downtown core.
Huber says the building must be filled again to help kick-start any community improvement plan.
