It’s been a day of remembrance and reflection at Bruce Power as the company took part in the annual Day of Mourning ceremony.
The numbers tell the tale.
Eleven people have died at Bruce Power since the company began construction in the 1960’s.
In 2010 400 were killed or injured in Ontario; 1,500 in Canada and two million worldwide.
Those gathered for the ceremony at Bruce Power heard Executive Vice-President Ian McGinty say in remembering the fallen, we must prepare for the future.
The President of the Power Workers Union, Don Mackinnon says the goal of worker safety on the job creates another challenge.
Mackinnon says when one builds up a good safety record, it can create a breeding ground for complacency which leads to injury or more tragically, death on the job.
A wreath of remembrance was placed at the memorial stone outside the Bruce Power Support Centre and a moment of silence was observed.
