If you can’t be in Westminster Abbey Friday morning to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot — Owen Sound has the next best thing.
St. George’s Anglican Church is hosting a viewing of the royal wedding on a big screen.
Reverend Graham Bland says the idea came from St. Joseph’s in Port Elgin, which is hosting a viewing in one of the long-term care homes.
Bland says the church in Owen Sound is a traditional Anglican setting, and they’ve set up a large screen so people can sit as if they are attending an actual wedding.
He says the pre-wedding events actually start at 2 AM but the church will open as early as 4 AM.
Bland says everyone he’s talked to is getting excited for it, and there will be a British tea, coffee, and treats.
He says it is all free of charge, because the church wanted an opportunity to give back to the community.
Bland says St. George’s has received a lot of support for its own challenges recently.
The official wedding ceremony will start at 6 AM.
