The good financial news from Bruce Telecom in 2010 has extended into the first quarter of 2011.
Bruce Telecom Chief Financial Officer Bart Cameron was part of several employees from the firm, reporting to Kincardine Council recently.
Kincardine is a partner in the communications company.
Cameron says they ended the year last year, with over 820 thousand dollars — 67 per cent higher than they planned.
He says in the first quarter of this year the trend continues with almost 500 thousand dollars earned while the budget called for just over 178 thousand.
However Cameron cautions a lot of that money will be used up as the company resumes its 5.5-million dollar upgrade program.
The Vice-President of Operations Wayne Eichenberger says new fibre optic nodes are being installed in neighbourhoods around Kincardine and Port Elgin, which will provide faster Internet service and access to digital TV.
Eichenberger says about two million dollars has been spent on the upgrade program for Bruce Telecom with 30 per cent of the plan completed.
They’re still looking at a 2014 completion date for the project with 75 per cent completion by the end of this year.
