Over the next few months — the Bruce Grey Catholic Board will be implementing almost a million dollars worth of energy efficiency upgrades to its schools.
It’s all part of a Ministry of Education Energy Efficient Schools initiative — and the local board has received just over a million dollars in funding. ($1,083,000)
275 thousand of this has already been spent — and the remaining 800 thousand dollars will be used in the upcoming months.
Before taking on any of these projects, Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says the School Board first did its homework.
She says a number of energy audits were undertaken to identify areas of improvement for energy conservation.
As a result — the Catholic Board will be upgrading some of its heating systems, lighting and windows.
Smaller projects like replacing hand dryers with more energy efficient models and introducing automatic light sensors will also take place.
Colton says little changes like this can make a big difference in energy savings.
She says the projects will pay for themselves through energy savings in just a few years time.
All of the energy efficiency projects should be complete by the end of August.
