One of the first items on the agenda for Grey County Council will be to consider a County wide library system.
West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles plans to bring forward the idea when County Council meets on Tuesday.
Eccles notes a County wide system works in Bruce County and Wellington County.
And he also points out it’s difficult for individual municipalities to sign reciprocal agreements with the Counties.
Eccles believes a County wide system will make libraries more attractive for families who travel from one community to another — for example, if a family from Durham went to Owen Sound for a hockey tournament.
Eccles says they should also be able to save time and money with the administration system.
Partnerships appear to be a priority for Grey County this year.
Warden Arlene Wright likes the idea of forming partnerships to save money and to find more efficient ways of delivering a service.
She feels there may be opportunities for partnership with tourism and economic development.
Meaford Mayor Francis Richardson would also like to see more discussion about an OPP contract that covers all of Grey County — and not having each municipality sign their own policing agreement.
