The Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce wants to find out how the national leaders stand on funding for research.
Executive Director Deborah Barker says just before the election was called, the Federal government pledged 100 million dollars for brain research to match funds raised by members of the Neurological Health Charities of Canada.
Barker says as a Founding member of the group, the Alzheimer society applauds the pledge on behalf of the Canadians living with Alzheimers’ disease and other dementias.
However, the promise and tax relief measures for caregivers are in a budget that never passed before the House broke for the election campaign.
She says the fact that Prime Minister Harper was pitching a Tory plan to spend 100 million dollars on a fund to support brain research and neuroscience is good news.
However she wants to know how the other parties stand on the issue.
Deborah Barker is encouraging all voters to ask their party candidates to support funding for research.
500 thousand Canadians suffer from dementia and millions more suffer from Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Multiple Schlerosis, ALS or other brain conditions.
