For Children throughout Grey Bruce who are 17 or under and who have no family dental coverage, there are free dental services available through public health.
Public Health Nurse Sandy Rennick says April is Oral Health Month and the Grey Bruce Health Unit has launched its campaign to let parents and caregivers know about the services available including screenings, polishing, fluoride fillings and more.
Roughly 45 per cent of Grey Bruce residents have no dental insurance of any kind, well above the 32 per cent national average.
Results of dental screenings across Grey Bruce show younger children have higher numbers of decayed, missing and filled teeth and higher decay rates than seen in the same age group provincially.
Rennick tells Bayshore Broadcasting the reason for these frightening statistics given by public health is parents simply can’t afford it.
