The General Manager of the Ontario Dairy Goat Co-operative Lisa Thompson of Teeswater is now the PC candidate for Huron Bruce — but the vote was close.
The President of the Huron Bruce PC Association Doug Freiburger says the vote went to a second ballot that saw Thompson edge out Huron Kinloss mayor Mitch Twolan by a mere nine votes — 447 to 436.
Third candidate Taun Frosst of Saugeen Shores was dropped from the ballot after the first count.
Thompson in her acceptance speech had a message for current riding member Liberal Carol Mitchell saying she’s out of time and out of steam and you’re going to be out of votes as the PC’s “rock the riding.”
Later she tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that she wants to provide a strong rural voice not only in the legislature but at the cabinet table as well.
She says it makes her sad how main streets in rural Ontario are disappearing, along with rural schools closing.
Runner up in the voting Mitch Twolan says it’s disappointing to come in second but the voting members of the 13 hundred attending have had their say and he will support Thompson in the fall election.
Third in the balloting was Saugeen Shores Councillor Taun Frosst who said it was a great experience and he hopes the Liberals take note in the riding as to how strong the PC’s are in Huron Bruce.
Thompson says as far as she’s concerned the campaign starts now, predicting change is coming because she believes Huron Bruce deserves better.
The nomination meeting was held Saturday at the Ripley Community Centre.
