Food processing plants in Huron and Bruce Counties are receiving provincial help to retain workers and further develop their markets.
Gay Lea Foods Co-operative of Teeswater will eventually add 20 jobs to bring its workforce up to 70 people.
A grant of almost a-million dollars to Gay Lea will also allow it to increase revenue by 25-million dollars a year as it expands into new markets.
Area dairy farmers will also benefit by being the annual source of 50-million additional litres of milk earmarked for Gay Lea.
Green’s Meat Market and Abattoir of Wingham is in line for 128-thousand dollars to modernize its facility and add new equipment.
The grants were announced Friday by Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell.
