You’ll see more police checking to make sure your buckled up in your car.
The Ontario Provincial Police are kicking off the annual spring seatbelt enforcement campaign on Wednesday.
Grey County OPP Constable Steve Starr says it seems the message is getting through year after year, as their seatbelt compliance rate is now 92 per cent.
Starr says there is a lot of voluntary compliance, and he doesn’t want to take away from the fact that most people are safely belted in.
He believes as the years go on, it will get even better, as the younger generations are used to buckling up as soon as they get in the car.
Starr says they do need to bring more awareness to child car seats.
He says they will be hosting a clinic on Thursday at the OSCVI parking lot in Owen Sound, along with members from the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Starr says it’s important to check the expiry date on a car seat, and ensure it’s properly installed.
The clinic will run from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and everyone is invited to drop by.
Statistics show seatbelts were not used in 23 per cent of fatal collisions investigated by the detachment.
The fine for not wearing seatbelt is 235 dollars and two demerit points.
