West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles is the provincial Liberal nominee for the Bruce – Grey Owen Sound riding.
Eccles beat out fellow candidates Selwyn Hicks and Dan Duquette at Tuesday night’s nomination meeting at the Bayshore in Owen Sound.
Eccles says he had a great volunteer base behind him during his nomination run, and hopes that will continue leading up to the provincial election on October 6th.
Bruce – Grey Owen Sound is a wide open riding according to Eccles, and he adds he is very pleased with the Liberal turnout at the meeting.
With current Bruce Grey – Owen Sound Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch headed for retirement after 21 years in office, Kevin Eccles is looking forward to the challenge of trying to recapture the riding for the Liberals.
A few of the issues at the forefront during his campaign will be the possibility of a new district jail, the wind turbine issue in Meaford, as well as farming and rural matters.
According to Bob Ernest — Southwest Region Vice President of Ontario Liberals — There were 435 total votes cast at the nomination meeting.
Ernest says that is the largest Liberal turnout for a nomination meeting at 35 Ontario ridings so far.
