A children’s choir from Uganda is coming to Chesley tonight to bring a message of hope.
The Watoto Children’s Choir has been travelling the world since 1994 to spread awareness and hope to other communities.
Spokesperson Stephen Banyikiza says they are a branch of the Watoto Childcare Ministries, and the mandate is to rescue orphans and at-risk children to raise them up as leaders to help rebuild the nation of Uganda.
The ministry was formed to help the vulnerable women and the millions of children who lose their parents to the AIDS epidemic.
Banyikiza says the choir is the voice for those orphans.
He says they spend six months at a time travelling, and are currently crossing Canada coast to coast.
The Chesley Community Church is hosting the stop — and it will take place at 7 PM at the Chesley District High School.
Banyikiza says you can expect traditional African beats, rhythms and harmonies accompanied by brilliant costumes and also inspiration stories from the children of Watoto Villages.
The concerts are free to the public.
Watoto means “the children” in Swahili.
