Amateur Kickboxing World Champion Shalynn Sulkey wants to give back to Hanover.
The 17 year old is organizing a run that she is calling ‘Small Town Big Dreams.’
The 2-K, 6-K and 10-K run will take place in Hanover on Saturday May 7th.
The 17 year old hopes to raise funds from the run to support athletes like herself who have to travel to international competitions.
Last year, the town of Hanover gave a one thousand dollar donation to help Sulkey and a few of her teammates travel to Serbia for the World Kickboxing Championships.
Instead of asking for a donation again, Sulkye wants to try to raise the money through the run.
Sulkye says it’s expensive competing at the international level, making fundraisers like this one so important for her cause.
Sulkey is heading to South Africa in June to compete in the Intercontinental Kickboxing Championship.
She will also be Orlando, Florida in July for the International Kickboxing Federation match.
Sulkey encourages people of all ages to participate since she calls it a great way to promote physical activity within Hanover.
She has also challenged her fellow students at John Diefenbaker Secondary School.
The run will be followed by a community barbeque.
Pledge forms can be picked up at the Hanover Civic Centre or at Golden Tiger Kickboxing.
