The Tiverton Sports Centre will soon be sporting a new multi-use field courtesy the Bruce County Rugby Football Club.
Kincardine approved the addition, just east of the arena at a recent council meeting.
The President of the Bruce County Rugby Football Club Tim Cook says next season, the field will be home to the Bruce County Barbarian’s two rugby teams and the ladies Banshee squad as well.
Cook says the 150 members of the club are raising all the funds to prepare the grounds and then have the area sodded and seeded.
He says the estimated cost of the project is about 35 thousand dollars with no money coming from the taxpayer.
Cook says the field likely won’t be available for use until next year.
In the meantime, he says the Barbarians home games will be shared between the fields at Kincardine District Secondary School and Saugeen District Secondary School and the CAW field in Port Elgin.
Cook says it’s the same set-up that has been used the past couple of years.
Council agreed with the club’s plans and suggested the municipality will likely provide garbage cans and lawn cutting for the field which will also be available to Tiverton residents for their use.
