The Ontario President of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario will be in Walkerton today.
Architect, developer and inventor Lloyd Alter is coming to shed some light on just how ‘green’ our older homes really are.
His talk will focus on the environmental benefits of heritage preservation and walkable communities.
Brockton Heritage Committee Chair Ted Cobean encourages the public to take in this free talk.
He says Alter will explain how many heritage buildings are incredibly efficient with their double hung windows, transoms, shutters, porches, awnings, trees and vines to keep the home comfortable.
Cobean says there is a lot we can learn from these old heritage buildings.
He says the location of a home is also important. He says the new subdivisions are not convenient for walking and result in a heavier reliance on gasoline.
With over 250 recognized heritage buildings in the Brockton area, Cobean is hopeful many of these homeowners will come out to hear Alter speak.
Alter will also be giving tips on how homeowners can make their homes more efficient.
The event is taking place April 9th at 10 AM at the Victoria Jubilee Hall in Walkerton
