A local documentary-maker is hoping to help Japan by screening a story more than a decade old.
Sandy Greer wrote, directed, and produced “Soop on Wheels” in 1998.
The documentary tells the story of Everett Soop, a Blackfoot political cartoonist who lived on a native reserve in southern Alberta.
He suffered from Muscular Dystrophy and because he spent his life in a wheelchair, many people in his own community feared and misunderstood him and would ridicule him.
Greer says the story of his tenacity reaches throughout the years, and reflects the tenacity shown by those in Japan who are trying to rebuild their lives after the devastating earthquake and tsunami which struck four weeks ago.
Greer will be screening the documentary at the Hanover Civic Theatre at 7 PM Friday.
Doors open at 7 PM and admission is by donation.
All of the donations will go to The Canadian Red Cross Japan Earthquake/Asia-Pacific Tsunami Fund.
