Like mother, like daughter. 11 year old Corrina Serda of Saugeen Shores is following in her mother’s footsteps having completed the Climate Project training program led by Al Gore. Corrina is the daughter of Saugeen Shores councillor Victoria Serda who took training from Gore virtually from the beginning of his quest. Victoria has made hundreds of climate change presentations across Ontario and is considered the leader in spreading the word in Canada. Meanwhile, Corrina was in Montreal earlier this month to take the intensive sessions about issues surrounding climate change, led by Al Gore and Dr. Andrew Weaver, who was the scientific advisor. The 11 year old is now authorized to present Gore’s slide show, which became the basis of his best-selling book and Academy Award-winning documentary film, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Corrina says she decided to take the course because it’s her world and she wants something better for herself and her children of the future. She says even if her mom didn’t do what she was doing, Corrina figures she’d be doing something like this because of her concerns for the earth. Corrina says she plans to speak at schools but will speak to whoever wants to invite her. She says besides the presentation she is adding her own ending, coming up with 12-solutions to help make the change. Among those solutions are changing light bulbs to environmentally friendly ones; planting trees to take in carbon dioxide and buy food locally to help cut down on fuel consumption to get imported foods to our marketplaces. Corrina’s mom, Victoria says she proud of her daughter and looks forward to taking her around to various locations to make her own presentations.
