South Bruce Peninsula council believes everyone in Sauble Beach and Wiarton should be paying the maintenance costs on fire hydrants, whether or not you’re on the water system.
Mayor John Close says it doesn’t matter if you’re on the water system, the fact is should there be a fire, everyone benefits from the availability of fire hydrants in the community.
Close says staff has now been given that direction to charge the maintenance of the hydrants to taxpayers because the hydrants are for the general well-being of the communities.
The new plan will be put in place for Sauble Beach residents and for residents in Wiarton; many of whom are not on the municipal water system.
