The widening of Goderich Street at the North end of Port Elgin is done.
Saugeen Shores Director of Engineering, Dave Burnside admits it took a few weeks longer than planned, because they added extra work to the contract.
The extension of Biener Street and sewer work caused the delay but does not mean an increase in the just over 1.6 million dollar price tag.
Burnside does say they are looking at what a price escalation clause in their contract means though, since there was a significant jump in the price of asphalt.
In the meantime, Burnside says sewer installation at the David Street and Goderich Street intersection; encompassing work on Bricker Street between Christopher Drive and Davey Street; should be done in about two weeks time.
He also says work on a signalized intersection at Goderich and Lake Ridge in front of the site of the new Wal-Mart is underway.
That becomes the main entrance to Wal-Mart and includes widening Goderich Street to accommodate a left turn lane.
That work is being done at a cost of just over 491 thousand dollars and should be done in about six weeks.
Burnside says that it won’t affect motorists as much as work at the North end did.
