Bruce Safe Communities achieved the mark following a national survey by Safe Communities Canada which evaluates designated safe communities across the country every year.
Bruce Safe Communities Coordinator Darlene Noble says they were scored on community leadership, priority setting for the community, sustainabilty of safety programs, and engaging the community in safety initiatives.
Noble says Bruce Safe Communities is an initiative by the Bruce Power Off-Site Safety Team who wanted to send a message that safety applies to the home as well as the workplace.
Noble says there are 54 designated safe communities within 7 Provinces and 1 Territory in Canada.
She says out those 54 communities, 12 of them received a perfect score.
Noble says the perfect score shows that they are getting the message out to communities about safety.
