It’s a small part of theĀ 22nd annual Port Elgin Pumpkinfest on Saturday and Sunday.
On Soundingboard Co-ordinator-in-training Kristyn Kline says stories are starting to circulate again on the size of the some of the pumpkins and other items that will competing in the weigh-offs throughout the weekend.
Co-ordinator Lisa Irwin says there will be some new activities at the celebration as well, with an improved games area for small children; a zoo featuring camels, and the highlight will be Patches Pumpkin Patch where you will be able to learn how to grow these giant vegetables.
Irwin says participants will be given pumpkin seeds of their own that have come from one of the larger pumpkins.
Besides the activities on the grounds at Saugeen District Secondary School, there will be the giant antique vehicle show that stretches from one end of Port Elgin to the other, along Goderich Street.
Irwin says because of road closures during the weekend, parking will be at a premium and they are providing free shuttle bus service every 15 minutes or so, from the Plex in the north and the Super 8 Motel area in the south.
Tickets to Pumpkinfest can be bought on site on a day pass or a weekend pass.
The event runs 9am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
Irwin says the Pumpkinfest is important because it promotes tourism in this area and the 60,000 visitors they expect leave behind over five-million-dollars in economic impact.
