The Vice Chair of the Bluewater District School Board is extremely pleased with the decision to build a brand new super school in Walkerton.
The board has announced plans to replace Walkerton’s two elementary schools and its highschool with one new JK to grade 12 facility…
Bluewater Trustee Jennifer Yenssen says Brant Central and Walkerton Public would be closed and Walkerton District Secondary would be torn down and the new school built on that site.
It was also decided that the school board would keep the 13 acre property that belongs to Brant Central for possible use as a football or soccer field.
The consolidation of the three schools will also save up to 750 thousand dollars a year in operating expenses and Yenssen believes there will also be savings in bussing.
Yenssen says the Bluewater board already has experience combining schools and points to Peninsula Shores in Wiarton and Bruce Peninsula District in Lion’s Head.
She says the board needs to begin lobbying the government to get money for the project which is estimated to cost about 20 million dollars.
Yenssen says the school will be built with two separate wings separating the younger children from the high school students.
