The new 17 million dollar building features a unique, energy saving design.
The new state-of-the-art three storey building is over 600,000 square feet and sits along Owen Sound’s East side water front.
The health unit board secured a 25-year loan similar to a mortgage to pay the 17 million dollar price tag.
75 per cent will be funded by the province, the remaining 25 per cent is payed for by Grey and Bruce County.
The new building meets Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) standards for environmental consciousness.
The eco friendly building features recycled materials, energy saving toilets that use rain water, a fitness room, and systems that significantly lower energy and water consumption.
Public Relations Co-ordinator Drew Ferguson says by using these resources they will conserve over 1.8 million litres of water every year.
The main floor of the building houses the sexual health clinic, vaccination clinics, a new oral health program, classrooms, and a training kitchen.
The second and third floor will be used as office space for over one hundred and forty staff members.
Our Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn says it’s the first time staff will all be under one roof.
She adds having all of the employees together has already helped with communication, travel and meeting costs.
