The case for a new swimming pool may or may not hold water.
Saugeen Shores Council has awarded the contract to Competitive Edge Research and Consulting for just over eleven thousand dollars to conduct Phase Two of the Town’s pool feasibility study.
That phase looks to gather more information through public meetings and preparing a report to Council based on those findings.
Director of Community Services Mike Myatt says they want to continue with the planning process.
He says once Phase Two is done they hope to have a clear picture as to what kind of amenities users would like to see in a new facility.
Myatt hopes that Council will take the feasibility study into the next phase which will look at the capital and operational costs of a new pool.
He says any new pool will come with a hefty price tag and that is something Council will have to decide later on.
There were some concerns from Council about the potential high cost of building a new pool.
Myatt says he has heard from those who use the Centennial Pool that a new pool is needed.
He says he also has heard from people that don’t think a new pool is necessary.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed around 2012 or 2013 when the current pool will reach the end of its usefulness.
