Its a joint effort funded by the federal and provincial governments to help low and middle income families get out of rental units and into their own homes.
The idea is to free up much sought-after affordable rental properties in Ontario.
Grey County originally received more than 170 thousand dollars for the program which ends in in March.
They’ve now been given an additional 80 thousand dollars.
Housing Director Rod Wyatt says that will allow them to help an additional 10 to 12 families by giving them 5 percent of the down payment on a house worth not more than 167 thousand dollars.
With the new funds Grey County will be able to assist at least 34 local families.
Wyatt says they sign a 25 year agreement and if the family still resides in the same house in 20 years the loan is forgiven.
The family must also secure a mortgage from a private lender on their own.
