There will be some rules on the roads and sidewalks in Saugeen Shores.
Council last night adopted the recommendation of Public Works Director Bill Jones to consolidate the traffic by-laws from the three former municipalities into one.
Jones says the new by-law will see posted speed limits of 40 kilometres an hour on certain streets in Southampton and 50 kilometres an hour in Port Elgin.
He says residents in both communities are quite satisfied with the current posted limits and are not inclined to have one speed limit for the entire Town.
Jones says there was discussion on whether to replace all yield signs with stop signs at uncontrolled intersections.
He says Council has decided to hold off on that decision as many of the yield signs are in undeveloped areas and feels stop signs can impede traffic flow.
Jones says the by-law prohibits the use of bicycles, low speed motorized vehicles, or rollerblades on sidewalks.
He says sidewalks are for pedestrians but exceptions have been made for non-recreational personal mobility devices.
He says the Town has built skate and bike parks to utilize other forms of transportation.
He says the Town tries to build bike paths where they can and admits that is something that they need to work on.
The by-law also covers one-way streets, signals, and snowmobiles.
The traffic by-law is expected to be officially passed at the October 6th Council meeting
