The Eastside Snowmobile Club has given the thumbs up to hold the the Georgian Cup snow-cross races this year in Owen Sound.
Chairman Peter Van Dolder says the club met last Thursday and voted on holding the races again this year at Victoria Park.
Van Dolder says the vote was unanimous because the club wants to continue to hold it but they know there is alot of risk involved.
Van Dolder says at the meeting they looked over their budget and says each year the end of the races they are left with very little money.
Van Dolder says they operate on a budget of 50 thousand dollars with most of that money going to the Snowcross racing association to attract drivers and provide prizing.
Van Dolder says the hope is to cut expenses by 5 to 10 percent and as well generate 5 percent more in revenue.
Van Dolder says they also will be looking to meet with the Owen Sound Agricultural Society and the city to possiblly reduce rental fees and as well look to attract more sponsors.
The club will review the success of the 2009 race and then make a decision on 2010.
The 2009 Georgian Cup is set for January 17th and 18th.
The Georgian Cup began as an ice racing event nearly 40 years ago and switched to snowcross 5 years ago.
