An unidentified man from the region has conttracted the potentially deadly bacteria.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn has confirmed with Bayshore Broadcasting News the first reported case in our region comes from Grey Bruce.
Dr. Lynn says they received the report about the case at the end of August and it is related to the Maple Leaf Food contamination
Dr. Lynn says the man is currently recovering from the infection.
Dr. Lynn adds most cases involving patients with listeriosis attract the bacteria because they have an underlying illness which is the case with the local man.
18 people in Canada have died from listeriosis.
