Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Gerry Kamenz not mincing his words when it comes to the lack of attention agriculture is getting in the federal election campaign.
He says its almost shameful that the Federal Leaders have yet to even mention Agriculture as an issue in the campaign.
Kamenz says local MP’s seem to understand some of the issues and pressures facing farmers today, but it appears there is a total lack of concern as far as the leaders are concerned.
He says the leaders of all four parties could well take a lesson from Provincial politicians of every stripe who visited the International Plowing Match in Teeswater en masse earlier this week to show their support for the agricultural sector.
He says they recognize the importance of Agriculture in the Province and its time the Federal Leaders did the same.
Kamenz also wants improvements to risk management programs so that Ottawa is more flexible and allows made in Ontario solutions for local agricultural problems.
He says the OFA along with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture will be pressuring Federal Leaders and politicians to make Agriculture an important part of this election campaign.
