Local youth will have a great opportunity to learn about outdoor activities today.
A group of organisations are combining their efforts to hold the 2008 Youth Outdoors Expo at the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association Clubhouse south of Owen Sound.
This is the third year for the event, which introduces young people between the ages of 10 and 14 to everything from archery to nature interpretation.
Organizer Jason Ritchie says the event has grown over the years, and they’re expecting up to 80 kids.
Ritchie says they are divided into groups of about 10 and moved through the displays and workshops so everyone gets to try everything.
Ritchie says with rising child obesity rates, the organisers believe the workshop is a good way to promote healthy activity.
The 2008 Youth Expo is free and runs from 8:30 to 3 PM.
It’s the result of a collaboration between the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association, the Grey County Forest Stewardship Network, the Saugeen and Grey Sauble Conservation Authorities, the Owen Sound and Saugeen field naturalists and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
Local businesses and groups are also sponsoring the event.
