Sometimes it takes a heroic effort to help senior’s remain living in their homes.
The Southwest Community Care Access Centre, or CCAC wants to reward people who help make community care possible.
The CCAC has announced its “Heroes of Community Care” award program.
Executive Director Sandra Coleman says the goal of the program is to shine the spotlight on people who don’t often receive the credit they deserve.
Recipients can be anyone who assists people in their homes, including case managers, personal support workers and nurse.
However, Coleman says family members, friends, and neighbours are also eligible to be nominated.
Coleman says most of the time community care happens in private homes and is almost invisible.
She says the work of people assisting with community care often means that clients with disabilities or illnesses can stay at home in familiar surroundings.
Coleman says nominating potential “heroes” is easy, with a one-page nomination form.
It can be downloaded from the CCAC’s website, or picked up at the CCAC office in Owen Sound or Walkerton.
Barring that, Coleman says people can just phone in their nomination and someone on the line will help them complete the form.
The deadline for nominations is September 10th and award ceremonies will be held in Owen Sound on October 2nd.
