One Port Elgin resident thinks rock and roll IS noise pollution.
Jeff Wiles lives across the street from the Wismer House — a local eating and drinking establishment.
Wiles came to last night’s Saugeen Shores Council meeting to address his complaint about the excessive noise coming from the business.
He says ever since the Wismer House changed management there have been numerous live music acts that have performed there.
He says the music coming from the establishment is too loud and is disrupting his right to peace and quiet.
Wiles says he also had to deal with intoxicated patrons who trespass on his property late at night.
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett says they have been in touch with the management at the Wismer House.
He says they have repeatedly given them warnings and have charged them with violating the Town’s noise by-law.
He says they have also informed the Alcohol and Gaming Commission about the noise complaints.
Rivett says the Town’s noise by-law doesn’t cover a lot of things that can develop in a growing community like noise from patios, drive-thru speakers, and car washes.
He says the Town will have to review the by-law to address those issues.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says the Town may consider measuring decibel levels to determine if it violates the noise by-law.
He says he will also bring up the noise by-law at the next Police Services Committee meeting.
Smith says people should be able to enjoy living in their homes without being offended by noise.
