Chalk up another milestone for Bruce Power.
The executive assistant to the President of Bruce Power, James Scongack says last week’s announcement of the make-up of the joint review panel to look into the proposed Bruce Power new nuclear power plant project is significant.
Scongack says the quick announcement shows the government is interested in Bruce Power moving ahead with its environmental impact statement.
He says the finishing touches are being put on the statement but the company is confident once its presented the panel they will see the advantages to the first new build in a generation belongs in the Tiverton area.
Scongack says the report will be comprehensive from the first shovel in the ground for the project to decommissioning the site and returning it to what they call a Brownfield state.
He says that is a length of time that could spann 100 years or more but it proves that everything has been researched.
Scongack says there is no time line on when the statement will be made to the panel but he notes that since the panel has now been named it’s full steam ahead, even with a federal election in the works.
The appointment of Dr. Louis LaPierre (Panel Chair), Mr. Andr Harvey and
Dr. Moyra J. McDill was made jointly between Canada’s Environment Minister,
John Baird, and the President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
(CNSC), Michael Binder.
