Kincardine is looking to establish a boundary around their municipal airport.
Rob Ayres and Don Jones from the Airport Governance Committee delivered a presentation to Council on Wednesday on the Terms of Reference, Strategic Plan, and Airport Vicinity Protection Mapping.
The committee suggested to Council that using a GPS approach will pinpoint the exact areas where high-rise structures can not be built.
Councillor Ron Hewitt says if they hadn’t gone through this approach then it would have meant setting up a parameter of 4 or 5 kilometres around the airport where no development can take place.
Hewitt says the committee have been working on this for the past year.
He says with wind farms being built in the area, that is why the committee is bringing it up.
Hewitt says there is still more that needs to be done like zoning issues and whether there needs to be an Official Plan Amendment.
He says this sort of mapping is new to Ontario and they may have to go to Bruce County to see how to do this.
The committee suggested funding for the GPS mapping would be split three ways between the Municipality, Bruce Power, and Suncor Energy.
